LET IT BURN
I am a curious, stubborn, resilient, imaginative, consistently contradictory, and fearlessly strong-willed individual. I create to make sense of, and build connections with the world around me. I am particularly interested in the intersection of arts, environmental science, and social justice; often finding inspiration in the natural world and influenced by the political climate. I feel most at peace in nature, and have never faltered in my childlike wonder and appreciation for the natural world. I firmly believe the world would be a better place if we all just spent a little more time outside.
My identity as a queer individual from America also influences my perspective and thus the work that I create. My leftist views and hopes for free healthcare and education, prison and police abolition, immigration rights, reproductive rights, and basic equality are viewed as radical by many in my environment. I persist in spite of these people and create art as a part of my resistance. I firmly believe that art has the ability to create powerful social change and when given the opportunity to take a stand against injustice, it absolutely should.
My movement style is a patchwork of organic wiggles, rhythmic isolations, and technical execution. Drawing from my ballet background, I enjoy creating classically inspired shapes and distorting them with both intention and reckless abandon; seeking to find flow between contemporary dynamics, technical prowess, and emotionally compelling theatricality.

Creating is my therapy; allowing me to explore new feelings and revisit old, research new topics and gain insight to unique perspectives, create impossible puzzles and challenge myself to find a solution, and ultimately to experience the joy of bringing all my wild ideas and beautifully strange shower thoughts to life. I sincerely hope that others do enjoy my work, but whether or not they do does not determine the success of a creation for me. Each project, I am to discover something new; whether that be about myself, movement, or the world in which I exist. My one goal in life is to continue this journey of discovery and creation until the day I die, and through this, I look forward to a very exciting life.
Peace & Love,
Billie Bryerton
